Twitter To Integrate Newsletter Sign-Up Button to Profiles

The "subscribe" button will be available to anyone with a Revue account.

In the next weeks, Twitter will add a newsletter subscription button to its user profile to enable newsletter writers better utilize their existing Twitter followers to build their subscriber bases.

This latest move by Twitter demonstrates its sustained focus on newsletters, following its January takeover of the subscription newsletter service, Revue.

According to Revue’s tweet, the “subscribe” option will be available to everyone with a Revue account. The button is planned to be prominently displayed on the profile pages of people who choose to enable the feature.

Folks who have Revue newsletters will be able to enable this feature directly in Revue, and people who visit the writer’s profile on Twitter can subscribe directly

Twitter – Revue Acquisition

Twitter announced its acquisition of newsletter company Revue in January. According to the firm’s blog post, Twitter believes that writers, experts, and curators, particularly those who create long-form media, “are a valuable part of the conversation,” and that it wants to provide them with new ways to increase their audience and generate income. As stated in the blog, the Revue agreement is part of these efforts.

We will continue to invest in Revue as a standalone service, and its team will remain focused on improving the ways writers create their newsletters, build their audience and get paid for their work. We’re also expanding their team and hiring for key roles across engineering, design, research and data science

According to Twitter their goal is to enable authors interact with their subscribers while also helping readers better find writers and their content while also generating income. It has also made Revue’s Pro features available to all accounts and reduced the paid newsletter charge to 5%, claiming that this will allow writers to keep more of the income earned from subscriptions.

By adding Tip Jar, Twitter formalised an already-existing practice. The same seems to be the case with the addition of newsletter subscribe buttons to Twitter profiles. Instead of having to pin a tweet linking to a newsletter, Twitter developers will soon have a dedicated spot for this possible money source.

Twitter did not specify an exact date for when the new subscribe button will be available but said it will be accessible soon – first on the web and Android, and then on iOS.
