WhatsApp Extends Until June 19 for Accepting the Revised Privacy Policy

WhatsApp asked its users to agree to the privacy policy revised before 8 February.

WhatsApp may formally extend the deadline for app users to approve the latest platform rules, which have been criticized by rival users and services. According to information received by WABetaInfo, certain accounts have been told that the deadline for agreeing to the terms of service has been extended to June 19.

According to the application’s official website, the new date is now visible to users in Europe and Argentina. The key explanation is that the service is publicizing the move in countries where the app is not allowed to update usage guidelines this month.

As per the pop-up notification that displays the date, the revised terms comply with new European Union data protection rules, and users must approve the terms by June 19 to continue using WhatsApp. Users may continue to disregard the pop-up, but in order to use WhatsApp with full functionality after the date, they must accept the terms.

Officially, the new WhatsApp rules went into effect on May 15, and they contain clauses that enable the app’s data to be shared with Facebook. By refusing to accept the new terms, the user would gradually lose application features, including the ability to send and read messages.

Brazil’s Situation

In Brazil, the National Data Protection Authority (ANPD) has given users more time to determine whether to accept new regulations without interfering with usability. Brazilian users will be able to use the service for another 90 days without having to agree to the new terms thanks to an agreement reached between the agency and WhatsApp.

In other terms, Brazilians should not be concerned about the date June 19. After all, if the ANPD and WhatsApp maintain their partnership, the new rules can only apply in our country as of August 2021.
