How to connect and transfer files from phone to pc

Your mobile is a powerful computer in your pocket, and part of that PC-like muscle with Android means you can plug your phone into any Windows or Mac device, either way and then drag and drop data. Android devices, unlike iPhones, allow you to directly access their file systems from a desktop without the need for any complex interfaces or complicated procedures. In reality, essentially, transferring files to or from an Android device is no different from plugging your computer into an external hard drive and moving data to or from it. All you need is a phone, a computer, and a cable to connect them, depending on the specifics of your devices, with micro-USB or USB-C on the phone side and USB-A or USB-C on the computer side. (The majority of modern Android phones use USB-C, although most pre-2016 devices have the older micro-USB standard. In the meantime, USB-A is the typical connector port you’re used to seeing on laptops, but USB-C is now available for more and more models.) There’s a fair chance that the same cable that links your phone to its wall charger would work.

Here’s what you need to do next, depending on whether you have a Windows or macOS, system:-

Android file transfers for Windows computers

Things are as simple as possible with Windows. Just plug your phone into any computer’s or laptop’s open USB port, then turn on the screen of your phone and unlock the smartphone.

Swipe down from the top of the screen with your pointer, and you should see the present USB link notification. It’ll probably tell you your phone is only connected for charging at this point.

Click the notification and choose ‘Transfer files’ or ‘Transfer files’ from the menu that appears. If you are planning to move media files, you may also use the “Transfer photos” option (sometimes referred to as “PTP”), which will treat your phone like a digital camera. Go to your desktop and open a File Explorer window once you have made your pick, using the method that makes the most sense for your Windows configuration:

Click the File Explorer icon in your taskbar or open the Start menu and click This PC or Computer or open This PC, Computer, or My Computer icon on your desktop

Then, alongside other portable devices and drives, search for an icon representing your phone. Click the button or double-click it, and ta-da! You are looking at the internal storage of your Android phone. You can now click and browse folders, drag and drop files between your phone and your PC, or any way you want to access the info.

Android file transfers for Mac computers

The method of Android file transfer is a little more complex on MacOs but fear not, because it’s still pretty simple.

The key difference is that you will need to download and install an official Google application called Android File Transfer before things go to work. Your Mac must run macOS 10.7 or later to use the software, and your Android device must have Android 3.0 or later, something that for any fairly recent Android product should be pretty much a given. Just plug your phone into your machine once the software is in place on your Mac, turn on the screen of your phone and unlock the device, and then look for the same USB status message mentioned above.

Tap the notification and choose “Transfer files” or “File transfer.” You should then instantly open the Android File Transfer software on your Mac and you should be able to search the storage of your phone and transfer files to the contents of your core.
