In 2021, foldable smartphones will get more advanced, and LG will be the first to implement a modern concept. The Korean manufacturer hasn’t really reached the market for foldable phones yet, but this year that will change. The Rollable phone was teased by LG during its CES 2021 press conference. This is not technically a smartphone that is foldable, as the display does not fold; instead, to provide more screen real estate, it rolls out of the phone. Similar to what we saw on the OPPO X 2021, the rollable panel stretches out from the side of the phone to provide a tablet-like experience. As for individuals who are familiar with the plans of the venture, the LG Rollable should be out later this year. The mechanism is identical to what is used in LG’s rollable OLED television and gives a completely new design to the handset.

Although many other brands have already launched foldable smartphones, such as Samsung, Huawei, Motorola, and others, LG hasn’t. The Korean company has experimented with other models and has sold dual-screen phones. It also released a phone called the LG Wing with a swivel feature. Although the new LG Rollable is not going to be a foldable device, both a smaller and a larger screen will indeed allow users access. A large tablet-like device rolls down into a smartphone, the teaser that the company played during its event. In the future, this latest concept will certainly change the mobile landscape.
The rollable LG phone will be available for purchase later this year. With such a style, it would be the first handset, but not the last. Earlier this week, TCL also showed a similarly built smartphone concept. The TCL devices, however, are not yet actual products, although in the coming months LG could announce the Rollable phone. In the works for this year, OPPO even has the X 2021. LG’s latest phone could drum up some enthusiasm for the smartphone maker once again. Before we get too excited, we will have to wait to see what the actual product is like.
