Xiaomi, a Chinese smartphone company, is working on a new version of its custom operating system, MiUI. While MiUI 12.5 has been anticipated for some time, Xiaomi’s India Head, Manu Kumar Jain, recently announced it while speaking with the company’s Facebook followers. Jain didn’t mention when the next update of MiUI would be out, but he did say it would be the “cleanest,” triggering rumors that Xiaomi might eliminate advertising from its phones. However, given that advertisement is one of the ways Xiaomi makes money and keeps its smartphones inexpensive, we’d be shocked if it did.
The company has been testing MiUI 12.5 in China for a while, and sources say that it has already released beta testing forms for the India ROM. The Indian government blocked Xiaomi’s Mi Group India app last year, so the firm would have to find new ways to send out trial forms to its fans and users.
As MiUI runs on Mi, Redmi, and Poco smartphones, so here’s a list of compatible devices:
Xiaomi’s Mi 10, Mi 10T Pro, Mi 10T, Mi 10i are the latest offering from Xiaomi and will support the upcoming MiUI 12.5 update.
Redmi K20 Pro, Redmi K20, Redmi Note 10 Pro Max, Redmi Note 10 Pro, Redmi Note 10, Redmi Note 9 Pro Max, Redmi Note 9 Pro, Redmi Note 9, Redmi 9 Power, Redmi 9 Prime, Redmi 9, Redmi 9i, Redmi 9A, Redmi Note 8 Pro, Redmi Note 8, Redmi 8, Redmi 8A Dual, Redmi 8A.
POCO is known for its pocket-friendly smartphones and operates under MiUI based systems. POCO X2, POCO X3, POCO M2 Pro, POCO M2, POCO M3, and POCO C3 are the devices that will support MiUI 12.5 update.
Furthermore, when Manu Kumar Jain said the 12.5 edition would be the cleanest, he may have clearly been making a passing comment about MiUI. Removing advertising, removing applications that are essential to the companies revenues doesn’t sound like a sensible thing. And it’s more than likely that the company will save it for a massive UI refresh, rather than a decimal version like MiUI 12.5.
A stable edition of MiUI 13 is also planned later this year for the uninitiated. According to rumors, Xiaomi will announce the next edition in June of this year.
