An affordable flagship by Redmi is said to be in the works which will be powered by the all-new MediaTek Dimensity 1200 SoC and it is reported that it will launch officially in February by the name Redmi K40. However, reports have revealed that there could be another variant of the phone which may be powered by the all-new Snapdragon 870 SoC. The tipster on the Chinese micro-blogging website Weibo posted saying that the Redmi K40 will be unveiled with an ‘unreleased sub-flagship processor’ which is expected to be the Snapdragon 870 SoC. The tipster also repeated that the Redmi K40 Pro, which is expected to launch alongside the vanilla K40, will be powered by Snapdragon 888 SoC and will be priced at around Rs 34,000 in the country.
The sub-flagship processor from Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC that was announced this week, which is positioned below Snapdragon 888 SoC. The chipset comes with slightly improved performance, connectivity, and efficiency from the Snapdragon 865+ SoC. Xiaomi announced its support for the chipset, and it seems like Redmi K40 could be the first smartphone from the brand with the Snapdragon 870 SoC.
Redmi K40 series launch
An official launch date for Redmi K40 hasn’t yet been announced by Xiaomi, but the company has confirmed that the series will make its debut sometime in the upcoming months in China. The lineup is said to also include a mid-range Redmi K40 smartphone and a couple of flagship smartphones, allegedly dubbed as Redmi K40 Pro and K40 Pro Zoom Edition.

Redmi K40 is reported to come with a sub-flagship SoC i.e., Snapdragon 870 SoC, while the Redmi K40 Pro will be powered by the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC, according to the reports. Xiaomi recently teased to launch the Redmi K40 series next month. The company also revealed that the new series will debut at a starting price of CNY 2,999 (roughly Rs. 33,900). Both Redmi K40 and Redmi K40 Pro are expected to feature AMOLED displays along with hole-punch design and include fast charging support. Earlier this week, Weibing teased that the Redmi K40 would deliver nearly 37 hours of battery life on a single charge. The executive posted a screenshot to show 64 percent remaining battery charging on the phone after 10.5 hours of usage. That screenshot also suggested a full-HD+ (1,080×2,400 pixels) display.
