Phones Expected to Release in May 2021

Pixel 5a

Google Pixel 5a
Google Pixel 5a

A recent Google Pixel 5a image leaked in a blog post suggests a May release, but this has yet to be verified. In October of last year, Google accidentally posted a picture taken with the unit. The Pixel 5a picture has a screen resolution of 4032 x 3024 pixels, and it’s most likely from an early software build and an older Google Camera release. It’ll have the same 12.2MP sensor with improved software, an aperture of f/2.2, and a focal length of 16mm, implying an ultra-wide-angle camera. The Pixel 5a could have a dual-camera setup with HDR+, Night Sight, Portrait Mode, and other Pixel features.

Google will use the same approach with the Pixel 5a as it did with the previous generation Pixel 4a in 2021: no frills, just a low price, and some pretty nice specs. Google first entered the mid-range segment with the Pixel 3a in 2019, and then dominated the market with the Pixel 4a the following year. Despite their low price, the mid-range Pixel phones have become popular among those looking for a mid-range phone with a good camera. The Pixel 3a and Pixel 4a’s single-camera sensors created stunning images, including some incredible low-light photography.
