After the huge success of the ASUS ROG Phone 3, which was one of the best android smartphones of 2020, packing plenty of power with a 120Hz OLED screen, and a massive 6,000mAh battery. ASUS is all set to add a new gaming device to its ROG Phone series.
Digital Chat Station, which happens to be a tipster for Weibo which is the biggest social media platform in China, with over 445 million monthly active users as of Q3 2018, reported that the new Asus ROG Phone will come with a 60W or 65W charging whenever it launches later this year.
Digital Chat Station also reported that the new Red Magic 6 gaming phone will have a 4,500mAh battery with 120W+ charging while echoing official teases that the Black Shark 4 will also be coming with the same battery unit. The tipster suggests that all the 3 smartphones will be launching in the first half of 2021, which would be early for ASUS ROG Phone particularly, as ASUS has a history of launching the ROG Phone series in the second half of each year, going back to the original device.
Design and Specifications
A leaked live image of the upcoming ROG Phone on Weibo has also blended some rumors. It showcases that the handset will be having three cameras with a glass back in the rear, a very similar design approach as the previous-gen ROG smartphone. The primary camera will come with a 64-megapixel sensor with Quad-Bayer technology. The handset also has the number ‘05’ written on the back panel alongside various branding, which could possibly mean that ASUS would launch it as the ROG Phone 5 instead of the ROG Phone 4. This is something that we have witnessed in the past from certain smartphone manufacturers, as the number 4 is considered unlucky in various Asian countries like China, Taiwan, Japan, and Korea. Also, looking closely, you can see that there is a red shoulder button, which could possibly mean that ASUS is going to incorporate physical triggers for gamers. Again, these are just speculations.
The handset was spotted on Geekbench recently suggesting that it would be powered by the latest Snapdragon 888 SoC with 8GB of RAM and Android 11 out of the box. According to the recent 3C certification listing, the handset is expected to come with model number ASUS_I005DA and 65W fast charging. In comparison with the older generation smartphone, ROG Phone 3 came with 30W fast charging, and hopefully, ASUS will continue to offer a large 6,000mAh battery.
The poster image clarified that the next-gen ROG gaming phone will come with an edge-to-edge display with a narrow chin. The previous-gen smartphone, the ASUS ROG Phone 3 was launched with a 144Hz refresh rate display and this time also the stakes are high. It would be interesting to see what ASUS will bring this year with the new smartphone.
