After surge in subscribers during pandemic, One of the leading OTT platform has decided to include adults content for its users.
Disney was originally an OTT platform that was used to make cartoons and many other shows. Disney recorded a huge uprise in subscribers during this pandemic. They are hoping to attract more customers to its Disney+ platform with the launch of channels aimed at adults. Now Disney is no more for kids only. The Star channel is set to debut on Disney’s streaming platform on 23 February 2021.
Disney will also push up the monthly service cost by almost 33%.
Disney is known as a safe children’s entertainment provider. To protect its reputation Disney+ will install a two-step parental control system involving age restriction and rating on individual profiles and password protect it. Those who do not go through the process will find their account set to a default rating of 14+. Disney plus was launched in March of 2020 and achieved a benchmark with 95-million active subscribers globally. The All-time great and Godfather of OTT platforms, Netflix has around 200 million subscribers. The Mandalorian played a big role in the success of Disney plus, drawing 38% of Indian streaming subscribers till the end of 2020.
Lockdown last year pushed the number of Indian Streamers up to more than 26.8 million.
