Airtel for the third time in a row exceeded Reliance Jio by adding over 3.67 million new wireless subscribers in October, according to the reports by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). In this October, Airtel managed to add 1.45 million more subscribers than Jio. As Jio added only 2.22 million wireless subscribers in the same month. With this milestone achieved by Airtel, it continues to hold a dominant position in terms of the active user base with 96.74 percent active subscribers on its network.
According to the other reports by TRAI, the wireless subscriber base of Airtel reached 330.28 million this `October, up from 326.66 million which was reported for September. This addition of 3.67 million new users in one month was the largest by any telecom service in that span.
Contrary to this, Jio still retains its No. 1 position of being the largest telecom operator in India with 406.35 million wireless subscribers in October. While Airtel had a total of 404.12 million subscribers.
Looking at the reports of other telecom services, Vi (Vodafone Idea) saw a drop of 2.65 million subscribers in October. While Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) saw a drop of 10,215 wireless subscribers in the same month.
And according to the reports by TRAI, the total number of active wireless subscribers in the country in October reached 960.91 million users.
