James Gunn, who just finished the Galaxy Holidays Guards Special, has also shared another surprise gift in social media: the footage of a Disney Imagineering project capable of walking and strolling charmingly, that rendered a lifelike Robotic Groottom. On Twitter, the author/director just said the development was “Groot IRL,” but it was also a spectacular accomplishment in robotics, as the article from TechCrunch shows.
The code called Project Kiwi, the effort aimed at creating a forum that could theoretically “play” bipedal ambulation in small robots. In other words, there is a great announcement or project in works centred on Groot from Disney, which is not actually representative of the work seen here. Take a look at the video below to see Groot in motion, and although he is tempted to believe that it’s magic or CGI, realise it’s a true animatronic walking person like the ones in fun parks, roll easily and just get his programming from a thin cord. Gunn announced recently that movies are going through “this year” in Volume 3, in the current Guardians of the Galaxy reports. The author/director said that he was working on the suicide squad, the creation of a peacemaker TV spinoff starring John Cena, and the above-mentioned holiday event on Twitter earlier this month, which is very striking. Oh, he’s consulting on the EPCOT Disney Parks coaster in Disney World, so that Project Kiwi can be fully involved.
Gunn said he plans to have a “long nap,” after he finishes this project.
