by Khushi Lokapur

Another year is coming to a close and Spotify Wrapped is how we know that. 2020 was a drastic year for all of us, being cooped up inside our houses, but one thing that’s remained constant was music. Spotify Wrapped’s 2020 edition is now live for all users and you find your specially-curated playlist on the Spotify app or the dedicated Spotify Wrapped website.

The music streaming service revealed these stats on 2nd December, but there some users who are still confused about how to access their personalized stats and curated playlist. This article will give you a quick walkthrough to help with the same. All you have to do is follow the step-by-step guide given below:

  • Open the Spotify app
  • Tap on ‘See how you listened in 2020’, on the ‘Home’ section.
  • You’ll find a series of stories depicting your music journey throughout the year
  • You can find your personalized playlist on the ‘Home’ section itself in a “Wrapped 2020” card, under “Uniquely Yours.”
  • This may require some patience as this has not been rolled to some users yet.

  • Go to the dedicated page for Spotify Wrapped online.
  • Log in with your details.
  • You’ll find the playlist of your top songs along with another one called, ‘Missed Hits’, featuring the top songs of 2020 that you may have missed.

  • Open the same site via browser from your mobile.
  • You’ll get a nice visual rundown of the year.
  • Then, you’ll be directed to your playlist.

A lot of new features have made their way into this year’s Spotify Wrapped while some of them have remained constant. The brand new features include, ‘Missed Hits,’ in-app quizzes, ‘Story Of Your 2020 with your Top Song’, and badges such as ‘Tastemaker’, ‘Pioneer’ or ‘Collector’ for Premium users. The ‘Missed Hits’ feature curates a playlist consisting of recommendations for similar 2020 releases that you didn’t listen to but might like. While the ‘Story Of Your 2020 with your Top Song’ feature details your journey with your top song of the year from its first stream to its hundredth.

Spotify also revealed its annual report on the top artist of the year and the most-streamed music album. The Puerto Rican pop star, Bad Bunny bagged the Top Artist of the Year with more than 8.2 billion streams, followed closely by Drake, J Balvin, Juice WRLD, and The Weeknd. While, on the other hand, for the second year in a row, Billie Eilish claimed the most-streamed female artist of 2020. Though the Grammy’s may not have recognized The Weeknd’s potential, Spotify surely did not make the same mistake as The Weeknd’s Blinding Lights topped the charts with almost 1.6 billion streams.

The podcast rankings were also pulled out, with Joe Rogan Experience on Number One, with TED Talks Daily and New York Times The Daily right on the heels. This shows a subtle shift towards informative podcasts in the face of the pandemic. Another interesting stat is that the early morning hours were the most popular among listeners.

Talking about the stats in India, Arijit Singh, Tanishk Bagchi, and Neha Kakkar remain atop the most streamed artist’s space this year, with Arijit Singh’s Shayad being the most-streamed song of the year. It was followed by Trevor Daniel’s Falling, Ghungroo, Tujhe Kitna Chahne Lage, and Makhna at consequent positions respectively.

However, the most notable mention goes to BTS, being the only international act to feature in the top 5 artists list. It is the fourth most-streamed artist on Spotify in India, with their album Map of the Soul: 7 being the third most-streamed album among Spotify listeners in India. On the other hand, among females, only local names were found as Neha Kakkar, Shreya Ghoshal, Asees Kaur, Tulsi Kumar, and Dhvani Bhanushali became the top five most-streamed female artists in India.

Podcasts were also big this year on Spotify with TED Talks Daily, On Purpose with Jay Shetty, and The Ranveer Show topping the most streamed podcasts in India. The genres education, lifestyle and health, society and culture, arts and entertainment, business, and technology were the most popular among Indians

Now, with all this information all that’s left to do is to check out your own personalized playlists and top artists for the year and have fun discovering some new music as well.
