Is Signal the best and the most secured alternative for WhatsApp?

Ample of users these days are switching to Signal due to the most recent WhatsApp update related to its privacy policy. But what actually is this signal? Why is it trending these days? How does the messaging app work? Let’s just have an in-depth look into this matter.

First and foremost,

What is Signal?

Signal is a free app focusing on the privacy of messages and voice talk, it is an all-in-one alternative to WhatsApp which is available on Android, iOS, as well as via desktop. Other than just chatting, this app allows you to make video calls/voice calls both one-on-one or in groups. Just like any other messaging apps, this one also allows you to send emojis and stickers. But the major highlight here is the privacy which Signal ensures with its tagline ‘Say Hello to Privacy’.

How secure is Signal?

Just like WhatsApp, services on Signal are end-to-end encrypted. But unlike WhatsApp, Signal isn’t owned by Facebook, which means only the user can see the content of their messages. No, not even the company itself!

Here’s an underrated fact: Did you know, Signal has been around since 2014 and was the first one to create ‘the encryption protocol’ that is currently used by WhatsApp and Skype?

Is Signal really that private?

Hell yes, it goes even beyond the encryption protocol thing. You can set your content to disappear after customizable time frames. Signal also does not collect any data on its users. The only information you give is your phone number which the company is even functioning a way to decouple that from using the app by making encrypted contact servers.

Why Signal over WhatsApp?

Both of them are end-to-end encrypted using the same technology, however, as we know that WhatsApp is affiliated with Facebook, it collects a fair amount of information from WhatsApp in the form of metadata, statistics and a lot more. And that is the reason people, Signal should be chosen over Facebook.

Just so you know,

The Signal Foundation was originated by the co-founder of WhatsApp Brian Acton and Marlinspike. Brian Acton, who left WhatsApp all the way back in 2017, put in around $50 million to assist Signal with funding.

The reason why Signal does not collect any data is that it is a non-profit organization. It does not include any sorts of advertisements which in turn causes no incentive to track users. Although it was created back in 2013-14 by a small group of privacy activists, it has only grown in recent times.

Just ditch WhatsApp and use Signal. Elon Musk says too.

Download the Signal app on Google Play Store or on App store.
