- OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei launched a new brand “NOTHING”
- The company will launch its first product in 2021
- This startup has been funded by CRED’s Kunal Shah
OnePlus’ co-founder, Carl Pei, who in October last year split with the tech giant, finally took the wraps off his latest company. Interestingly, “Nothing” is named. As revealed before the launch, Pei’s latest London-based venture has been confirmed as a consumer technology business with a very interesting group of investors, including iPod creator Tony Fadell, Twitch co-founder Kevin Lin, Reddit CEO Steve Huffman, as well as CRED founder Kunal Shah, among others.
This announcement by Pei comes shortly after a seed funding round of $7 million in December 2020. The company announced that its first smart devices would be launched in the first half of this year by Nothing. “Nothing wants to inspire people to believe in the positive potential of technology again… Nothing seeks to remove barriers between people and technology, to bring back artistry, passion, and trust to the field of consumer technology.”
Nothing, its CEO and founder, Carl Pei, said, “It’s been a while since anything interesting has happened in tech, talking about the launch of his new venture.” It’s time for a new breeze of transformation… The mission of Nothing is to eliminate obstacles between individuals and technology in order to create a seamless digital future. The best technology, we believe, is beautiful, but natural and intuitive to use. It should fade into the background when sufficiently advanced, and feel like nothing.
It’s uncertain for now what kind of products Nothing would launch under its brand name, but we’ve seen Carl Pei announce himself in the past that this new company will concentrate on audio products, but cautioned that they’re not only going to launch headphones but something more. This was, however, to be a hint at Pei also launching a music streaming site under his new venture at the time.
Although these questions were supposed to be answered today, the launch of the company, which has continued to answer almost nothing, has ensured that questions about Pei’s venture will remain unanswered for a while longer.
