The Snapdragon 870 5G SoC was launched by Qualcomm Technologies after the Snapdragon 888 5G flagship chipset. This is a follow-up to the 865 Plus Snapdragon and is based on the 7nm TSMC technology. It features an increased prime core clock speed of up to 3.2 GHz for the Qualcomm Kyro 585 CPU. The San-Diego based chipmaker says the chipset with Snapdragon Elite Gaming Experience would offer improved efficiency across the board for superior gameplay. Global 5G sub-6GHz and mmWave and Ultra-intuitive AI are supported by the chipset. The Adreno 650 makes a return from the Snapdragon 865 SoC for GPU. The new Snapdragon 870 will power Motorola, iQOO, OnePlus, OPPO & Xiaomi flagship phones that are affordable.
The Hexagon 698 is the Qualcomm Snapdragon and the Tensor Accelerator is said to produce the same 15 TOPS as the Snapdragon 865. Up to Quad HD+ panels at 144Hz refresh rate or 4K at 60Hz are supported. The panel will support HDR10+ and sustains the Spectra 480 ISP with support for sensors up to 200MP, 30fps 8K video capture, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision standards for high dynamic range images. Wi-Fi 6 (up to 1.77 Gbps) and Bluetooth 5.2 with AptX Voice and Adaptive are enabled on the Snapdragon 870. There is no integrated 5G modem, however, and it will be combined with an external Snapdragon X55 modem instead.
For privacy, Qualcomm 3D Sonic Sensor and Qualcomm 3D Sonic Max are supported by the Snapdragon 870, and there is a fingerprint sensor, Iris, speech, and face unlock for biometric authentication. Qualcomm’s Fast Charge 4+ and LPDDR5 RAM and up to 16 GB LPDDR4x RAM are supported by the chipset. Although Xiaomi says it will concentrate on 5G and camera, with the Snapdragon 870 5G Mobile Platform, iQOO mentioned it will carry a gaming phone.
