Truecaller has just launched a new personal safety app called Guardians this Wednesday. This app was under-developed over the last 15 months with team members from Sweden and India, this app allows you to share your location for a particular trip. This app will work in the background. Guardians app is aimed to offers users a safe trip and for the guardians to be aware of the whereabouts. Guardians app is a free-to-use experience, without any add or premium tiers.
“Guardians was born out of a simple question – how can we crowdsource personal safety, just like the way we crowdsource protection against spam, scams, and frauds with Truecaller?” said Alan Mamedi, CEO and Co-founder of Truecaller parent True Software Scandinavia AB. in a prepared statement.
Features of Guardians App:
This app is a new safety app, users can set the guardians whoever they want to and if the user finds any usual or an emergency, the user can simply tap on the emergency button to notify all their guardians about their location and situation. This emergency mode will allow Guardians to follow your location, reach your location, or be able to send help. A notification will also be sent to the community Guardians who may be a vincity as well. Truecaller also said that accepting the help from community will be a personal choice. You can stop or start sharing location and setup permanent sharing with the selected Guardians.
If you are sharing your location simply for a particular trip, Guardians works in the background. This app will run share location in normal mode while saving the battery life.
No data sharing in the Guardians App:
The Truecaller claims that it doesn’t share any user’s data and it can’t even access location data for any commercial purposes.
“We don’t store it,” started Mamedi.”It’s being streamed live directly to the client, so it will never actually touch our infrastructure.”
Truecaller has already a strong user base of 270 million globally and over 200 million in India alone, instead of going by integrating location sharing into the Truecaller app, the company decided to go with a separate offering to solve the purpose of personal safety.
How to sign-up and download the app:
The Guardians app is free to download from the Google Play Store and it will be soon available through the App Store.
The sign-up process is very simple. If you are a Truecaller user, you can sign in with one tap, but if you’re not a user you can verify your phone number using a missed call or OTP. Truecaller says that this app will never share any personal information with any third-party apps for commercial use, including Truecaller.
